History
MMT American Hospital, which decided to settle in Gaziantep in 1848, and lived in Antep until the end of his life. It was founded in 1879 in memory of Azariah Smith by the donations made and the donations made by his classmates at Yale University.
On that date, Azariah Smith was named Memorial Hospital. In 1882, the Shepard family moved to Gaziantep to serve the hospital for three generations. Dr. Fred Shepard and his wife Mrs. Shepard started working at the hospital. In 1905, Mrs. With the donation of Anna Morston, the building where the current emergency services and administrative departments were built.
In 1915, After Shepard's death, Hamilton served in the city for 18 years. In the following years, Son of Dr. Fred Shepard. Lorrin Shepard was also appointed to the Azariah Smith Hospital. In 1924 the British physician Dr. C.C. Piper started to work as a head doctor at the hospital. In 1996-2001, 3rd generation Barclay M. Shepard assumed the position of head physician.
In 1973, Muzaffer Kürkçü opened the Health School in addition to hospital services. In 1977, the nursery schools had to be at the high school level. The nursing school was re-opened in 1995, but it was closed in 1999 by giving final graduates due to the decision of YÖK.
In recent years, the hospital, which has been renovated by adopting the historical texture, has followed the developments in technology as well as the importance it attaches to infrastructure and personnel investment.
