What are Neurology and Neurological Diseases?
The science of neurology, which is also served in our hospital, contains many diseases that prevent workforce efficiency and productivity, which lead to a social problem. So what is the science of neurology, what diseases does it deal with?
Neurology; It is a branch of medical science that examines diseases of the brain, brainstem, spinal cord and peripheral nervous system and muscles in general, and includes treatment practices other than diagnosis and surgery. It deals with the diseases of the brain and all nerves in the body, and the diseases of other organs of the body that are impaired as a result of the disease of these systems.
Diseases involving the brain, spinal cord and surrounding nerves (tumor, inflammation, accidents, etc.) are generally the same. However, the shape and width of the disruption in the body changes according to the functions of these structures. It is the decrease in strength and feeling in the area where that nerve goes, which is seen in the disorders of the surrounding nerves. Again, with the nervous effect, sweating and blood flow in these areas are also disrupted. The reason for this is that the vegetative nervous system fibers are also carried in the surrounding nerves.
The spinal cord is a major pathway that transmits sensation from the organs to the brain, and motor (movement-related) impulses from the brain to the surrounding areas. In the disturbance of this place, loss of strength, loss of sensation and failure to perform vegetative functions occur. In addition, the person whose spinal cord is injured loses control of urine and stool.
To summarize the main diseases related to neurology as follows:
1) Headaches: Migraine and tension type headaches (which are the result of depression and distress) etc. which are the most common causes of headaches.
2) Dizziness (vertigo)
3) Strokes: The most common causes of strokes today are clotting (embolism) and hypertension. Same time; neurology deals with the factors that cause clots and the struggle with these factors.
4) Sara, or epilepsy disease.
5) Parkinson's disease, disease called MS (multiple sclerosis) and peripheral nerve diseases called neuropathy, muscle diseases.
6) Infectious diseases of the brain and nerves: For example; meningitis, encephalitis, myelitis etc.
7) Treatment of brain and nerve diseases at birth or after birth, and brain tumors and their treatment.
8) Waist and neck pains (waist and neck hernia)
9) Accidental head trauma, spinal cord trauma, etc.
10) Alzheimer (forgetfulness)
11) Beriberi disease (metabolism disease caused by vitamin B1 deficiency)
12) Sleep disorders.
13) Depression, manic depression (bipolar mood disorder)
14) Socio phobia.
15) Brain, Nerve and muscle diseases.

The increase in the elderly population and other socio-psychological reasons cause systemic diseases such as hypertension, heart disease and diabetes and related complications to be more common. Stroke is the most dramatic and fearful of these complications. This group of patients is evaluated with a multidisciplinary approach in the neurology department of our hospital.
Today, neurology has ceased to be a closed and limited branch, and has been divided into sub-disciplines that require specialization such as epilepsy, movement disorders, cerebrovascular diseases, dementia, and sleep disorders.

ACUTE BACTERIAL MENENGITE
Fever, severe headache, vomiting, neck stiffness, Kerning and Brudzinski symptoms, pathological reflexes, pulse discordance, herpes labialis, convulsion, eye fundus stasis, opustotonus, confusion and coma.

ALCOHOLISM
It is a disease characterized by pronounced physiological, psychological and / or social dysfunction associated with continuous and excessive alcohol use.

ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE
It is a progressive, irrecoverable brain dysfunction that occurs due to structural neuropathological changes and manifests itself with loss of cognition and cognitive function.
It usually starts after the age of 65.

AMIOTROPHIC LATERAL SCLEROSIS
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis; It is the most common and sporadic form of the disease. It also includes syndromes such as Pseudobulbar Palsy, Progressive Bulbar Palsy, Progressive Muscular Atrophy and Primary Lateral Sclerosis.

ANEURISM
When it comes to aneurysm known as bubble among the people; enlargements of the vessels (arteries) that generally carry clean blood.

HEAD ROTATION (VERTIGO)
The neurological complaint caused by dizziness and a change of orientation in the cavity is called vertigo.

WAIST HERNIA
Low back pain is extremely common and is the second most common reason people seek medical attention.

BRAIN VASCULAR DISEASES (PARACES - STROKE)
Cerebrovascular disease (colloquially known as stroke / stroke) is the most common cause of death after heart disease and cancer. This disease refers to any abnormalities that occur as a result of the pathological process of blood vessels.

DANDY WALKER
Dandy-Walker Syndrome is a congenital disease involving a cavity in the brain called the fourth ventricle and the cerebellum.

MIGRAINE
Migraine is a primary episodic (episodic) headache disorder accompanied by neurological, gastrointestinal and autonomic changes in various ways.

PERNISIYOUS ANEMIA
Vitamin B12 cannot be absorbed in the terminal ileum in the absence of intrinsic factor released from gastric mucosa parietal cells. Usually, it is a slowly progressing disease.
