Pulmonary function test
A pulmonary function test is a diagnostic tool that measures the function of the lungs. This test measures how well you can breathe and how much oxygen your lungs can deliver to the rest of your body. Your doctor may ask you to have this test if you are experiencing symptoms of lung problems, if you are regularly exposed to certain substances in the environment or at work, to monitor the progression of chronic lung diseases such as asthma or COPD, and to evaluate how well your lungs are working before you have surgery.

Why is PFT done?
Your doctor will require these tests to determine how your lungs are working. If you already have a condition that affects your lungs, your doctor may require this test to see if the condition is progressing or how it responds to treatment.
