The first step in treating psychological disorders is realizing that a problem exists. Often, people with psychological ailments deny their problems and do not seek medical attention for their symptoms. Regular medical care also provides an opportunity for your healthcare provider to promptly assess your symptoms and your risk of developing psychological disorders.
Treatment usually includes psychotherapy to work on behaviors, skills development, and the thought process. Medications can be very useful for treating some personality disorders. Significant improvement can occur with appropriate treatment.
